I still don’t know how I’ve kept this to myself for so long but I’m so thrilled to share with you this special spread I’ve made for the December issue of Harper’s Bazaar China!
The issue revolves around the theme of fairytales and the one I was given to illustrate was that of the Ocean. The story has bad pirates, good pirates, mermaids and spirits, all sprinkled with mystery and magic :~)
This post is actually very special to me and one of the reasons is that it’s the first time I went from digital to 2D. The characters were printed on paper, cut out and scanned. It depicts what I imagined as a “theatre with paper marionettes” - hence the hands and the strings.
The background is made from two works by Yves Klein and the waves by Katsushika Hokusai.
